In 2009 alone, T-Town PAWS rescued, cared for, and spayed or neutered nearly 700 unwanted animals from our community's shelter - animals who otherwise faced euthanasia for lack or space or time at the shelter. Your donations are greatly needed.

How T-Town PAWS Pet Rescue & Adoption Program Works

PAWS officeOur goal at T-Town PAWS is to find good homes for our homeless, but perfectly adorable and adoptable cats and dogs.  The vast majority of our dogs and cats are rescued from Metro Animal Shelter before their time is up.  However, from time to time, PAWS has the ability to accept a few pets from the public depending on factors such as space and health.

Cats and dogs awaiting adoption are sheltered in our pet adoption facility or in the homes of our foster families.  We do not euthanize healthy, adoptable pets - they remain in our care until adopted however long that may take.

While in our care, staff members, volunteers, and foster families tend to the animals' food and shelter needs, and give them care and affection.  Every dog, cat, puppy, and kitten is readied for adoption with a health check, basic inoculations, tests for life-threatening diseases, and spaying or neutering of all cats and dogs who are old enough.  When adopting an kitten or puppy too young to be spayed or neutered, upon strict screening we issue a spay/neuter certificate to cover a portion of the surgery cost.  We then track and follow-up with adoptive families to make sure every pet we adopt is spayed or neutered.

Most of our adoptable pets are good 'ol adorable "mutts"; however, we've occasionally rescued breed or breed-mixed dogs like the Yorkshire Terrier, Chihuahua, Cocker Spaniel, Shih tzu, Poodle, Pomeranian, Dachshund, Miniature Schnauzer, Maltese, West Highland Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, Rat Terrier, Bassett Hound, Beagle, Boxer, German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Great Dane, Irish Wolfhound, Mastiff and more.

Each unique, most of our cats are short haired tabby or calico cats, bobtail cats, and short or long haired cats of solid color.   We've also rescued a few cat breeds / breed-mixes like Siamese, Ragdoll, Persian, Himalayan, Manx, and others.

Pet adoption fees range from $25 to several hundred dollars, depending on age, breed / breed-mix, length of stay, and other factors.  The average pet adoption fee is $75.  Adoption fees for puppies or kittens too young to be spayed or neutered are generally more than adult dogs, though prices are set with the pending spay/neuter surgery in mind.

Front DeskIf you are interested in adopting a T-Town PAWS pet, we hope you will be open to meeting ALL of our adoptable animals.  Each has his or her own personality and you may find your perfect match in the most unexpected dog or cat.  What's more, we hope you will keep your mind and heart open to an older dog or cat - they are less work because they are already broken in!

Since our entry into pet rescue & adoption in 2005, T-Town PAWS has saved the lives of over 2600 local cats and dogs.  With your help, we'll continue to do so.  Please consider adopting a rescue pet from us!

T-Town PAWS thanks Dr. Todd Askew, DVM, of Ramey Veterinary Hospital for generously providing weekly veterinary visits and other veterinary support!
